Nadal's tennis got beaten by a fantastic performance of serve and volley on grass, old school style.

Didn't realise that Wimbledon had become such a struggle for Nadal as of late :rofl

He's failed to reach the QF since 2011 on grass, I just hope he doesn't come out with some sort of an injury excuse or something to do with his knees not being able to be compatible on Grass :lmao

This has opened up for Murray now to reach the SF against Federer.

His grass game needs changing quickly. Though Kyrgios is 120 places higher now more or less and also hit QF at this years Australian Open so in grand scale bit less of a shock than the other 3.

New coach, but Nadal will be stubborn about that but I think he needs a new coach. His style of play was eventually going to catch up to him, he's not say, Federer who can still play at a high level at the age of 33.

At that time, Kyrgios was a new guy so it was still a shock but this is preety much over for Nadal on grass, though the last 3 years should have put the nail in the coffin anyway...

Grass is big for upsets, it's a very neutral surface so you can't really underestimate anyone, not like clay or HC where it can be quiet one sided.

I think the reason for this is that grass season is just so damn short. 2-3 weeks between end of Roland Garros and the start of Wimbledon is so short that I doubt many people even bother with grass training as much as hard courts that basically hold most of the year with clay another 2-3 months.

In all honestly I think Rafa's injuries are catching up with him. Being god of clay is one thing but hard and grass he just can't keep up anymore. Yes he has QF this year in both French and Aus open, but overall it has been a disappointment for him. Especially since every French open he has been in he has failed to reach (and win in) the final twice. This year and 2009 when he was playing with an injury that forced him out of that years wimbledon.

For the first time in Wimbledon history they actually gave an extra week of space between Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year so that really can't be used as an excuse. Nadal also won a Grass tournament this year so he had a lot of prep coming in. It's just a matter of his gameplay which doesn't work on grass anymore, his topspin forehand is a sitter for players on grass these days.

I'm understanding why people say the H2H between Nadal and Federer/Djokovic is lopsided because Nadal was lucky to play them more times on his preferred surface whereas he didn't frequent on their preferred surfaces.

I hope a lot of youngsters were watching that match and should know that old school serve and volley Tennis isn't dead on grass, it can still beat baseline players :lmao

watching the highlight kinda makes me think how prime sampras would damage nadal, especially in last century's faster grass. would like to know if his s&v approach would've fared better than prime fed's baseline attack against teen nadal in wimbledon (which took him 5 sets), who was basically borg redux with better strokes and footwork compared to current nadal. seems like an in-form ball basher/anyone with a decent serve & volley can smoke him these days. 90s peak grass-specialists like sampras, goran, or even becker would probably demolish him in straights.

rafa seems to have declined to the point where his form is worse than his early years. could be his body wearing thin, or the season blues which hit roger in 2013, muzza in 2014, hits rafa this year. and nole next year?:fuck

How the fuck is she throwing it away. 2 Breaks up and now all square. Make Serena run, tire her out. If she snaps a hamstring doing it so be it. Stop throwing it away.

Why is she insisting on hitting it back to Serena when there is 3/4 of an empty court to smash it into. Make her run.
