  5. Maybe you could answer this question for me. I see this a lot around the forums, banners saved in png format. Why do you save your pictures in png format? It shows a blue outline on the pictures? Why not save it as a gif format when displaying it on the net? If you could answer me that would be great. ^__^

Oh and nice banner by the way. ^^ I really like that Yondaime one too! =D

PNG is better quailty and makes the file size smaller, and plus you can see the background transparent in firefox but IE you can't

It's a blue background because, the transparency you use is on Internet Explorer. If you use Firefox, you wont see the blue background.

PNG is a superior format because GIF does not support variable transparency, so you get jagged edges when those edges are not either straight horizontal or vertical. GIF can also only save up to 256 colors per image. The only things that GIF has over PNG is a smaller file size for some images, like those that contain a single solid color, and animation.

See an example of jagged edges. That particular GIF is, apparently, designed for a white or very light background; the problems become apparent when you try to move it to some place that has a different background color. With GIF, you would have to edit the image for every new background. Not so with PNG because it supports variable transparency (and, thus, smooth edges).

It?s too bad that Internet Explorer 6.0 doesn?t support PNG alpha transparency; you get a solid color instead. Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 7.0, Netscape 8.1 Fx, and Opera 9.2 all support PNG alpha transparency.

  11. Thank you spaZ and azurite for a clearer understanding. smile-big

Thank you for the wonderful information. I knew .gif files has a white jagged outline but I didn't know that IE couldn't support the transparency for .png files. Very useful info.

Thank you all very much! =D
