I'm surprised Kelly held on as long as he did. I'd be interested to hear more about his honest perspective about what happened.

History is on his side though.

In the past 100 years it's only happened once (Carter) that the incumbent party failed to win a second term. All other one-term presidents were continuations of a predecessor of the same party who died, resigned, or was prevented by the two-term limit from running again.

For example the recently departed George Bush sr. should be seen as Reagan's third term rather than a one-term president.

Doesn't matter. For as long as the MAGA crowd is the GOP's base, they're gonna run Trump again, because they can't be assured of victory without his personal charisma.

While I agree that Trump is at least a two term President, I think the reasoning is more the opposite, whether he can win or not the Maga base is soo big and entrenched that nobody can win without them anyway, whether he wins with them or not.

But Trump can't win without making inroads to other people BESIDES the MAGA base. His popularity is consistently 35%, that is NOT enough to win a reelection. Not to mention that he'll probably have several challengers for even the nomination at this point since Midterms was a very BAD blow for the Republicans.

If Beto, Sanders, Warren, or Biden win the Democratic nomination? They'd absolutely crush Trump in 2020 if he's even still President then.

Beto should have crushed Cruz but Republicans are fucking brain damaged.

He came closer than any other Democrat in history in Texas. Plus Cruz had to break out some SERIOUS voter suppression to finally seal the deal against Beto.

Another one bites the dust. Considering some of Tillerson's recent comments I wonder if Kelly will start throwing shade at Trump too as soon as he leaves the white house.
