Gimme your 4/4s, your 2-steps, breakbeats and all of that good stuff.

I'm gonna start off big with what is IMO the best garage tune of all-time.

    Scott Garcia ft. MC Styles

No-one's having any of it, it seems.

Not going to stop me TBH.

Easily one of the biggest bangers of all-time in any genre.

    @erictheking yes yes!

todd edwards is my favorite for ukg (almost cried when i found out he was american ; _ ; ) theres just something about how he tinkers with vocal samples that sets him apart from the rest. the only other dj/producer that can fuck with him in the ukg scene is mj cole imo.

I don't have one favourite myself. Antonio is one that is maybe overlooked sometimes but he was incredible. This is almost the perfect garage tune for me.

But the likes of Sticky, Wookie, Artful Dodger, DJ Oxide, Sunship, MJ Cole - all up there.

a pity about ukg nowadays though. practically no innovation whatsoever, mostly just trying to chase the sound and feelin of 90's ukg with a sprinkling of more bass :/

    still an enjoyable listen though.

I don't check for new garage as much as I should so I can't really speak on the current scene. I still love that sound though. This one from a few years ago took me right back.

i enjoy the music all the same but its still a bummer to me lol. still not sure what to make of uk funky though, which seems like the way most dj's that grew up on ukg went.

conductas one to watch from the new school ukg imo

also, nice one. really feeling the M & P track :yousmart

well it would sound a bit like house considering its a sort of love child of house and drum and bass (hence early garage coming from america with a big house influence and assimilating into the drum and bass crazed nightclubs of early 90's uk) with ample use of rnb vocal samples. it was a pretty dominant in the uk at inception though considering it was a respite from all the intense and somewhat overbearing drum and bass of that time. theres also speed garage which dj's like todd edwards pioneered and further down the line, 2 step. this is a pretty crude briefing on garage/ukg so ull have to try ur luck on google.

@erictheking wat r ur thoughs on my footworkxukg theory? am i onto something or just barmy.

@Mali I can see the resemblance. Doesn't surprise me at all, considering garage and house are cousins whether UK or US, the only debate can be by how many degrees of separation. I'm not up on it (Chicago footwork) but I love US (New York) garage. So smooth.

yeah new york garage is incredibly slept on and tbh i feel like a lot of the tracks from that scene suit the sensibilities of house fans in this day and age, like the track you posted (which is great!) wouldn't get a skip from people that think disclosure is the pinnacle of house music.

chicago house has to be my all time favorite stye of house, it's the house mecca imo. the emphasis on actually trying to get people to dance is one of my favorite things about it as opposed to just sounding good and ticking the right boxes stylistically.

this might just be my all time favorite house track ever. and funny enough it's competition for that spot consists of a bunch of it's remixes :lmao

Music of this quality is just timeless. I've always had a special thing for acid house myself, Fast Eddie fucked with it too as you know. I probably like techno even more.

yeah. and ive never really given techno a deeper look tbh outside of bait stuff like boards of canada, aphex twin and autechre (you guessed it, im an ambient lad lol). and of course basic channel. i was particularly impressed with andy stotts merciless and luxury problems even more, which i feel like draws a lot of parallels with burials untrue (a bizarre mention but sort of like solaris vs 2001 a space odyssey but less being the antithesis of each other and more being just different forays into moody/eerie dub).

BUT, my patience wheres thin with this style of techno. theres something incredibly cheesey about it and thats not just because of the "lol bleep bloop" sounds considering aphex manages to make use of them without sounding cheesey (see schottkey 7th path, one of my favorite aphex tracks).

Love Basic Channel. Ambient is cool - I liked Andy Stott's "Faith in Strangers".

u wot wot! but yeah i probably am tbh. i just may have not stumbled on to the right artist that suits my tastes and is this style of bleepy techno. i mean a few years ago if you handed me an electropop tape id tell u to fuck off but then a chance listen to the knifes silent shout later and im knee deep in Junior Boys and Roisin Murphy lol. and yh faith in strangers is great, a slight departure from his regular stuff, but great nonetheless.

and guess whose managed to download todd edwards Prima Edizione? packed to the brim with absolute BELTERS tbh
