After much consideration and discussion we have decided that the Art Contests and Competitions will be archived and the HVoA will be merged into one art-centric section.

With AoTW 95, AoTM 30, PoTF 233, SoTW 616 and PSoTW 70 there will be no more contests within the HVoA.

That said however, we're happy to announce that on February 1st we'll be launching the Contest Central within the Anbu Central which will house the vast majority of the Naruto Forums contests and competitions. One thing to note though that this isn't a continuation or a reboot of the HVoA or contests in general, some contests will remain while others will be brand new or reworked with much more to come in the future.

If there's any questions feel free to post them here or contact one of the Contest Central moderators; Trinity, Bontakun or White Wolf.

We also want member input on the location of the art-centric section to be, is there a particular category you as the posters want it located?

    Thanks for reading!

I'm partial to moving it to the Mall section. Visual art, literature, and music are all creative efforts.

I can personally message you to see if you're interested in any contest going on, and you can also subscribe to the section for updates.

The C.C. will be in Anbu so at the very top of the forum which should help make it more visible to new users (and old).

Noted. Do we still retain our points that we got through the previous contests, or is the counter set to 0 again?

    HOWEVER

it does fuck over the potential participants - you guys get a tremtendous headstart while (and i'm hoping new people will come on board) will have to start at 0 by default, no one would be on equal ground. this is why i had thought of restarting from 0, while of course feeling guilty by how others may feel about it

    basically it's a lose/lose situation

but i'd rather not piss you lot off if you think the energy and effort you spent in HVOA is all in your points instead of the entries themselves
    i just don't know

'point culture' honestly is something i'd discourage in this new section, if that makes any sense

why is some ppl having points a disadvantage to new participants tho

if i have 0 points and narutofanxd2018 has 25, will he be able to purchase any more prizes than if i had 6 million points and he still had 25?

i really don't follow that logic tbh

at the very least the decision should have member input before it's finalized since they're the only ones losing out, the staff literally have anything whenever they want via preet's circlejerking so it doesn't affect them at all :dead

We should be able to retain any points we already earned. There's no reason for anyone to start at zero.

Anyways, I look forward to participating in all non-gfx related contests.

maybe devalue current points so ppl can't just sit on them indefinitely, i could potentially get behind that depending on how it was done, but getting rid of them altogether is def over the top

i heard you out, we obviously have a difference in opinion but to explain again:
lemme elaborate: i don't want a bunch of people slobbering over points to be the main priority of section participation - i want the main priority to be about improvement and having fun while doing so

you can have prizes be one incentive behind your motivation to participate, but not the only incentive

of course, i can't control people and this is highly unrealistic: it's just an ideal i had in mind in order to encourage that kind of mindset throughout. it won't happen; it will never happen - points will rule the day, and that's fine, but i disagree with it on principle even before i became a mod

if it's a shitty idea? okay, we don't do that and we do it you guys' way (which we're doing now)

A full reset is something that puts everyone where the section aims to be - at the beginning. This isn't a continuation, not a reboot, not HVoA 2.0, and that's not what it's aiming to be. There's been so much turbulent history that a fresh start with incentive to participate should be the ideal for everyone.

You can get prizes for as low as 3 pts, so it does seem like a non-issue worrying about points more than the direction of the section and the potential for growth it's going to provide.

At the end of the day if it's hated someone will buckle and you'll get your points, but it is unfortunate that the section that's been asked for on multiple occasions is being put in second place over having a big number next to your points won.

you do realize i despise that mindset myself right? i've been pretty vocal about it here in the past

but you still haven't told me what resetting the points will accomplish

as long as points are a thing, there will be people who participate in contests solely to accumulate them, this won't change if you reset them, all you'll get that's different is some older members who have lost interest in contests grudgingly taking part again until they get enough and fucking off again

but to eliminate the points > all mindset you'd need to eliminate points

which unfortunately would also eliminate a large part of the potential activity, 'cause even for people who genuinely enjoy the contests in their own right, they're a good motivator for consistent participation

hope i was clear that time

i don't think that's the case, it's just that there doesn't seem to be a solid reason for everyone to lose their points.

i can't help but scoff at the irony of being lectured by someone who participated in psotw every week solely for the points until their prizes became permanent via modship and immediately fucked off

i don't disagree with that notion, which is why i added that it's an incentive and i except it to be one

why? it will accomplish equal ground (in points, not other factors)

again you disagree - so i'm not going to continue my dance and no one's points will be reset, etc

it's also not a continuation of hvoa - it was a way to dissociate from hvoa to begin with aswell, and while that's not a particularly strong reason, it was one

I'll take sparkles for 1 month for 5 points.

And extend my html usertitle for another month with my remaining 3 points, pretty sure that's about to end as well.
