Both can be cool or stupid depending on how its done. I don't think either is inherently better then the other. I do think that anti-hero's are more over rated though, but thats just me.

I prefer a hero that was once evil but is now seeking to redeem himself. Example: Angel from Buffy-Angel verse.

I prefere the villain with an agenda to the main cast

The Hisoka rule although hes promised to kill both Gon and Killua when they get stronger hes also helped them out countless times too

    Hmm good pick

Me too>< If done right they just seem more interesting and not to cliche' or overly generic. Plus they tend to be more bad-ass or more powerful!

I tend to prefer the anti-hero. But it really does depend on how well they are written.

I prefer the first one since they're characters are far better. Pretty much all Shounen main character has a formulated personality

Either is okay for me as long as it's written good enough.

Like Goku had a reason for being clueless and stupid, living with his grandpa alone in a mountain for 12 years separated from anything else. He didn't know any better. But Luffy lived in a village with civilized people. No real excuse for him to be as dumb as he is.

Well, i dont got anything against any of them, they can both be equally good or cliche.

But what about the guy who is forced into an situation that requires him to use his abilites so he can save the people he have dear??

For me, it would have to depend on the characterization and development of the character because both can be very good or very annoying. For example, I thought Naruto was really annoying(although not anymore) but I loved Gon and Luffy. I also think characters like Shin from Gundam Seed Destiny are annoying, but Batman ranks in as one of my all-time favorite characters. Now if it was something like Batman vs. Luffy in terms of what kind of character I like better, both have their highs and lows enough that they would cancel out for me so I like both equally.

The heart of gold hero is usually a recipe for faggotry. Luffy,Batman, and Goku pull it off, but few others ever have.

I prefer the Light/Lelouch type as the hero.

You can't go wrong with Alucard either.

The Dark Schneider type of Anti-hero is the best option for me.

If there's one thing I'm thankful to Oda for it's the fact there's no Sasuke/Vegeta character in OP. I also like the weak character who becomes stronger during the course of the story stereotype but it's sometimes hard to pull it off and when they're failed they're probably the most annoying ones.

Anti Heroes Because there's one in my sig who's made of Awesome and one in the Library who's made of awesome and one in my anime thread in the anime section who is made of awesome.

Anti Heroes are basically my favorites characters out of the hordes of cliches .

It depends on how they are done.

I like Lex Luthor in smallville and Sasuke in Naruto.

But sometimes the anti-hero is extra-lame. In that case, definitely the hero.

I hate both and prefer the much-cooler villains.

Hence why I always root for the Akatsuki and the Espada. One Piece doesn't count because Luffy actually makes me laugh, unlike Naruto or Ichigo who make me groan.

Both are overused cliches that can work if done excellently. I really don't have a preference for either, just as long as the character is done well is enough for me.

Batman is currently a father with a heart of gold again.

Anyway I'll take heart of gold over anti-heroes as anti-heroes are so overdone and poorly written now in days it's terrible.

Both are played out but I'd always prefer the vengeance story rather than idiot with the heart of gold.

I dislike most of the vengeance-seeking anti-heroes that I've heard of, so I'm going with the 'Shonen hero with a heart of gold' stereotype.

Generally the hero. Like Naruto>Sasuke. Goku>Vegeta.

Though there are exceptions like Killua>Gon.
