What i'm really supposed to do now is to study for an exam tomorrow, but i really really had to think of something besides gothic cathedrals for an hour or two... So here goes...

Look at tv commercials (?Get hot women now with this deodorant?, ?Get hot women now with this car?, ?Get hot women with this house?, ?Get hot women now with this workout equipement?, ?Get hot women by drinking this vodka?). This is almost everywhere. Posters use women to attract male eyes. Commercials tell us only one thing: You need a girlfriend.

Ok. Now it's natural to ask ourselves, WHY do we need a girlfriends? Well for reproduction, naturally... But... Let's skip to a related subject...

One would assume that the major source of social pressure in schools comes from the fact that some people ?get it? while some people don't. This can (will is more like it) cause psychological problems. Especially in for example high schools. Your body is telling you ?fuck? but you don't have a girlfriend. That is painful. Especially if you stand no chance of getting one (low confidence, ugly, both).

    So what is the solution?

    The solution is prostitution.

First of all, we must legalize prostitution. This will solve many problems (will especially help catching traffickers as the prostitutes do no longer fear going to the police). Secondly, we drop the age limit of the buyer. That is, the provider must be of legal age (18) but the buyer can younger, yet above a set minimum limit (13-14?).

This would let people not only ?try before they buy? (in a safe environment), but also to relieve their biological pressure, AND to give people an equal change. It would to a certain limit destroy parts of the ?alpha male? mentality. After all it would let the betas be part of the game.

Do you agree that prostitution should be legalized and the buyer age limit lowered? Do you disagree? Elaborate on your answer.

I believe my opinion on legally enforced school uniforms will have to make for another poll.

this is a really interesting issue, because you are arguing it on a political angle (as most probably would do), but i think resistance to the legalization of prostitution doesn't have to do with politics (although oponents will claim that it does) but rather, culture.

i mean, in some countries, legalization of prostitution could happen, in others, it JUST COULDN'T. and it's not because it DOES solves problems or DOES generate immorality (is that a word?), it's because the primary culture in that country will or will or will not accept legalization -or even deal with the issue at all.

But not for 14 year olds, I'd assume. In fact, I think the prostitutes wouldn't even do it from whatever morality they have left.

There was no presure in my high school at all to fuck. Geeks just don't get laid, in fact, I didn't as of 2 weeks ago have any need for a girlfriend. They're too high maintenance, and take too much money and spare time of you, while chances are low you'd spend the rest of your life with her.

Alpha males? I always regarded males that only cared about drinking, fucking, and playing sports as lower then me. I didn't feel any need to be in the "in" club, in fact I thought, and still do think it was plain retarted. (Congratulations. You have a girlfriend and you got laid. Who cares. You're nothing special, and it's especially not special if you get a new slut every week) I'm 17 as of yesterday, and yes I would like a girlfriend as much as any normal straight 17 year old, but there's no pressure, I've still got a whole life ahead of me.

Wow....prostitution? 0.^ I don't know about where you live, but....eww. So the ugly chics that can't get laid should become a prostitute. Cause I mean, all the prostitutes now are ugly and have so many diseases that you'll just get one by looking at them. Thirteeen year olds? Wow, that's young. REALLY young. And if you really want sex, you don't need to buy it from someone. Save your money. Charm your way through. And even the 'ugly' people can get some sex. .... :confused

Ugly women don't tend do become prostitutes. Or rather i can't imagine an ugly prostitute making any money at all.

What i mean is basically: Prostitution should be legal, and minors should be allowed to buy sex. But all prostitutes (be it male or female) must be 18 or older.

That's about confidence. Confidence is based on past experience. If you fail something repeatedly you have no confidence. Women only want men with confidence.

Well. I've seen tons of ugly prostites. Infact, I don't think I've seen any pretty prostitutes. May be just me (or america) cause I like the modest girls. The ones that dress nicely and aren't too sexually active.

Ahh, ok. Thought you ment the other way around. That makes sense, but it's still weird. :) "Mommy, can I have an advance on my allowance?" "Why?" "I wanna buy a prostitute!" "OK"

Yup, I think it is. I haven't tried, actually. I'm still a virgin. I've never tried anything. ...Well, maybe this one friend, but I tease her all the time. I only tease her cause she's taken. :xp She doesn't mind though. She's infact offered to get a girl for me. I've declined. (Don't hate. Just saving myself. :) )

Wouldn't legalizing prostitution bring mankind to a more "natural" state? The only difference is that you would pay prostitutes for their services. It's kind of like when the strongest male chooses the female to bear his children by strength, or in this manner, by money. Though the choice to be a prostitute depends on the person and the person looking for a prostitute. I know it's a bad example.

No. The situation right now works on "natural selection" principles (though slightly out-of-date with the current system). Legalized prostitution would let anyone who can afford it to have sex, not only those who can get it through other means.

The commercials aren't really telling us we need girlfriends, just playing on the natural assumption that we want beautiful women.

As for legalizing prostitution, I've been in favor of that all along. Personally I would never go to a prostitute, way too risky in the STD department, but if someone is willing to have sex for money then who are we to say "nope, sorry, you can't do that". Its their body.

Think about if it were legalized, we could tax prostitutes (and they do make a shitload of money). This would bring an insane new flow of money. Not only that, but if prositution were legal we could pass laws about it, we could require prostitutes to have monthly STD tests like is done with most porn stars. This if anything would reduce the spread of STDs.

Also with prositution no longer being a crime we can stop wasting space and money in prisons keeping prositutes and pimps in there with serial killers. We could also divert our police force to more productive uses.

I don't really see a valid reason not to legalize it.

Personally I don't want my 15 year old son succumbing to peer pressure, buying a whore, and having sex simply because that is the thing alpha males do. I'd rather he found out how to live life the way he wants to.

And despite checkups, there is no way legalizing prostitutes won't spread STDs like wildfire. The porn industry is a relatively closed business, so when one person gets an STD the rest know real quick who f*cked him/her that week. But the problems with prostitutes and STDs are much greater . . .

Oh, and want a good way to release biological pressure? Have a date with your hand :thumbs :blink

Dude, obviously it would be like drinking, a legal age limit.

No one said it wouldn't spread STDs, but think about it. Would be it better to have a prostitute going around who never knows they have AIDS, or have one who finds out within a week or two that they have AIDS so they can't take appropriate action?

You could also make it a legal requirement to use condoms and such.

I was responding to the age limit in the original post:

According to this the age limit is very very low. Legalizing prostition at an age like 18, well, maybe I'd be up for that.

It's be better to have the prostitute find out if s/he had AIDS in two or three weeks, but think about all the customers (assuming 2 a day, at least) that s/he has just infected before finding out. Condoms are not a failsafe, in fact--they are pretty bad protection against STDs.

I'm saying that legalizing prostitution may very likely spread STDs to epidemic proportions very fast, and that alone is good enough reason to not do it.

One country that legalized prostitution (I cannot remember which) also had a law requiring people who are out of work and collecting unemployment to take any available job. Since prostitution was legalized, it was also included. Which meant that young women who could not find work elsewhere were froced to work in brothels.

One of the dangers of making prostitution a legalized and legitimate profession.

I have experienced these urges/feelings and the solution I found was a butt load of porn and masturbation.... anyways....

This would contradict existing laws. The buyer and seller in this case would have to be in the same age brackets. It is illegal for an adult to have sex with a minor, even if it is concentual. The age of the buyer would have to be the legal age of an adult for a region, the seller would have to be the same age or greater than the legal adult age.

Only if they had enough money... what about the poor ugly bastards???

The main issue that I would have with legalized prostitution is the spred of STDs. You can say "wear a condum" as many times as you wish, not everyone likes to/will wear a condum when having sex. It would only take one effected whore to spread a desice rapidly. Would there have to be a licence to be a whore?

There are laws stating that you shouldn't drive when you are drunk, but people still do it. We wouldn't need a police force if every one was a law abiding citizen.

Um yea, ahhh no i mean prostitution could be legalized but i dont think you should drop the age limit. Think of the children, are you saying that 10 year olds can go out and buy prostitutes. Thats a little cooky, but ill give you props for making a stand against prostitution. Also STD is a big problem too, i think you would spread an epidemic of this goes down, i mean your killing people. In conclusion i say with pride a big fat NO.

I disagree with your whole premise. Big Business isn't telling us we need a girlfriend, Big Business is telling us we need their PRODUCT so we can get LAID. Everybody wants to get laid, therefore, buying our product is good.

I think you've got the whole point of the message all backwards :)

Yes but what people (especially impressionable teenagers) see on TV is what they believe is the norm. So if teenagers see from these adds that everyone wants to get laid, then they will believe that is something they should want too.

    It's a vicious cycle really.

No YOU are the one getting everything backwards. To get LAID you need a girlfriend. And to get a girlfriend you need their product.

Hence a reinforcement of the image that to be a man you need their product so that you can get a girlfriend and get laid.

I don't agree with this idea. First of all, the 'hot women' they use for deodorizers are just there to attract the male's attention - the people selling the product really don't care what message they send out at all, all they want is (in this case) to attract the attention of the male consumer so that they'll buy the product. I don't believe they're sending out subliminal messages to say "You need a girlfriend". It's just to focus the male's attention, and what better way to focus a guy's attention than by placing a hot woman on there.
I also don't agree with the idea of legalising prostitution. I'm by all means no conservative and I'm open to new ideas, but I think this is nonsense personally (no offense intended now :p).
I think it is personally a bit weak-minded just to legalise prostitution just because society (and the media perhaps too) suggests that all male teens should get laid. I have never felt the pressure of high school life to get laid. Ever. If someone said you should jump in a river because everyone that does that is "with it", would you do it also? Not trying to be insulting, just making a point here. I also find the idea of people that have JUST hit puberty (11-14 kinda age) being allowed to buy sex ridiculous. At that age, they may THINK they're ready for it, but they really aren't. Not mentally. Not physically. They haven't even reached their mature/adult stage yet, their bodies are still changing and adapting to the changes, hormones are raging like crazy, and really at that age you're only starting to find yourself and who you are/who you will become. That age is a very crucial development age, and you shouldn't mess it up by buying sex, which is the most intimate thing you can do, and it affects your mind enormously, and at that age it's a bad thing. Also, people at that age buying sex will often come to think of sex as a completely normal and casual thing to do, and might expect every girl they'll get in relationships with will immediately give them sex, as it is just a 'casual normal every day thing'.

They're reinforcing the image. Men needs women.

    No offense taken :p

I read some book a few years ago, swedish book with some title i can't remember except the fact that it was something "punny" along the lines of Sexicon or something. Basically a dictionary for sex-related words and with related information. One of the entries (i think it was related to some american sex-relationship social experiment) was about a theory that the "damage" caused by underage sex was not because of the sex itself. It was because of adult reaction towards it.

Imagine that you're 14. You meet a girl and you have sex. You liked it, she liked it, then your parents somehow gets to know this. Oops... Not as fun any longer, eh?

The idea of the article was that adult reaction towarods underage sex is what causes the psychological damage, not the sexual activity itself. Obviously excluding FORCED rape (not statuory rape).

Sex is not necessarily the most "intimate" thing you can do. Certainly if you look at our culture it has BECOME so, but it isn't naturally intimate. In fact i believe the intimacy and the overvaluing of sex to be one of the problems with it. Sex SHOULD be casual. With this i mean that abstinence forces overvaluing of something which shouldn't be overvalued.

Well, no shit. However, the Netherlands has legalized prostitution, and as far as I know the UK and Belgium doesn't, and Holland's percentage of infected is nothing compared to that of many other European countries, including Belgium and the UK. And that while Europe is the continent with about the least percentage of aids there is, if I am not mistaken.

For more information, check out This explains it pretty simply

And your saying we don't? Men and Women do need each other. Straight men and women anyway, how exactly is "reinforcing that image" somehow something bad? Please explain that to me, thats an image that you see everywhere not just in those commercials.
