Health What do you do when you have to take a mental health day?

Discussion in 'Konoha Country Club' started by Deleted member 235437, May 26, 2018.

  1. Those days where you can’t look at yourself in the mirror, you’re angry at the world, you’re carrying around dark thoughts, you feel empty, and as though life is meaningless.

What do you do to feel “better”?

A good way to relieve stress would probs have to be listening to music that you can relate to on some level

That or, if you're lucky, just find good company to be around for the time being and make small talk.

Spend time with my dog, watch stuff with my sister, take a walk, draw and eh... drink.

Or just go into depression nap. But since i live on a country side, just going out makes me feel better, especially in weather like this.

Ask myself why am I feeling like that and how do I solve my problem. If its something that I can change, I put effort into it. If not, I try to tank it as best as I can.

If it comes to that I cannot do nothing about it (which is very rare in life tbh, you can usually change stuff starting from yourself), I like to get myself busy with work. Doing anything else feels like running away and not doing anything productive while running.

Nothing much, I express my feelings to my brother or family. We talk a lot about things like this which helps a lot to process the feelings. So communicate with someone close to you because it gives you some control over the feelings and situation. Control is key to feel better, at least for me.

I usually take a nap when it's an available option, but I wouldn't recommend that.
What I'd like to, but don't do, is talk to friends about it. Maybe don't dwell on the negative for too long, though. Once you get what you're feeling off your chest, try talking about something else so you can get your mind off of it.

EDIT: Just realized you weren't asking for advice immediately after posting.
Maybe I'll use my advice sometime though, now that I've thought of it.

Mental health days are non-existent in the USA. At least in the states I've been to which include the one I was born in.. which is (Texas) and I've been to Virginia and Cali (currently live in Cali). As far as I know mental health days aren't a top priority in the workplaces I've been in. I work part time (also medical student)... They don't care. As far as i Know if i were to die, the workplaces I've had would probably use a Ouija board to ask me if I have someone to fill my spot :hmpf but if I were to take a mental health day I would probably run... idk... this kind of question is hard to answer

When you have a mental health life...you can't really single out days.

    You just live with them.

It does make the nice days totally awesome tho. Like really awesome.

vidya gaems and also copious amounts of doing absolutely nothing
they're good for the soul as inaction breeds comfort

  18. I’m actually the opposite, doing nothing for too long makes my mind become more stable. I blame social media for this, I see people going to nice place, doing cool things and then I look at my life and the fact that I’m doing nothing and it makes me feel shittier

  19. That’s true, some days are better and worst than others though, I guess that’s what I meant

When I see those people I think good for them
or I call them tryhards because when I have a good time with friends I don't need to announce it to anyone

Also social media is literally people putting on their best front, it's an unrealistic timeline most of the time because it's all self-selected
You don't see the boring stuff

It's like watching an anime with and without filler... You'll think the one without is crazy action packed goodness even if both are exactly the same, the only thing that changed? Is the pacing

    They're getting to you

Don't let them get to you

    You're doing fine

  21. I just wish my mind worked like that, I’m always comparing myself to people. Whether that’s strangers on social media or people that I went to school with are doing more than I am atm

There’s so much that I wish I could change about my life and the fact that I can’t really really sucks

Every time you see something that makes you go "oh, wish that were me/i was there"

ask yourself "where's the boring shit, the awkward silences, the major social fuck ups"

and imagine those happening, because they most certainly did
    trust me
    just do it
    do it naow

You shouldn't envy others it's unhealthy also wealth and the ability to do things isn't a sign of happiness I'm a textbook example of this.

Also doing more isn't better, like what they're doing are these things you'd like to do if not then pay no attention to it since you've got no interest in it, you don't want that from life so it shouldn't impact you.

Also instead of looking at the things you can't change look at the things you can't, the butterfly effect is real and small changes eventually lead to larger ones. Change isn't something that happens instantly nor is large change possible at the click of your fingers

Lifting weights clears my head, watching anime/reading manga distracts me and keeps me away from real life (as does other online activities, but anime/manga moreso), sometimes binge eating

I draw what makes me happy and share it with my friends here on the forums.
Ps: I was busy helping my stressed mom at knitting before I could post this fanart hence the eyes are uneven cause I rushed it within 5 minutes & my color pencils are shit. Gomenasai.

It’s days like that I’m thankful to have loving parents :gglife

Other than finding solace in Mom and Dad, I escape into fiction. I like comics and anime. Swords, fights, explosions, magic, etc, are all things I dig so I look for that kind of stuff.

Usually my husband helps me cope with those days since he’s the one who witnesses it all when it happens. Sometimes I’ll lay in bed with these thoughts and he’s always there to tell me the right things to keep my mind off of it.

A lot of times it helps when I’m around kids, so I spend a lot of time with my nieces and nephews.

Shopping helps, not being on social media and not replying to people’s texts and messages helps.

Being on forums, writing, photoshop, singing... I dunno. All kinds of things. Preferably creative.

And if anything else: YouTube or Anime is your best friend.
