If we have enough people respond then I'll even make a thread with a poll and put it to a vote.

Well, there aren't many people around that want to talk about poker and I'd like to see some opinions on the pro players themselves. I know there is a poker thread... somewhere, but I'd like to just talk about the famous players here.

My favorite right now is Howard Lederer. But there are alot of players who come in at a very close second. Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Phil Gordon, all players I look up to and respect. I choose my favorite players based on personality and background, but all these are rather skilled.

    My Top Five

1.) Daniel Negreanu is about the most humble 4 time WSOP Bracelet winner, and 2 time WPT winner there is. You look at how he handles the fame vs the jackass Hellmuth and you see why I respect Daniel. Even when he is on TILT in a tournament he still makes calculated plays.

2.) Phil Ivey gets my second place vote though he has been pretty unsucessful in the WSOP, he is a titan in CASH games.

3.) Johnny Chan he was a god in the 80-90's, 9 WSOP Bracelets. Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson brought the fame to the sport to the way it is now. In fact they single handely brought the term 'sport' and 'tv hold' to poker.

    Ever watch that movie called R O U N D E R S. [Johnny Chan and Erik Seidel].

4.) Howard Lederer revolutionized TV poker announcing and has taught poker to many of the greats we know today. Without Howard Lederer "The Professor" and Phil Gordon TV poker would not be so popular today.

5.) Phil Hellmuth Jr. I guess I had to mention the Jackass or "Poker Brat". Phil Hellmuth galvinized the sport with fans and haters of poker greats. He has more bracelets then any player in WSOP history (11). His books are attrocious however and I would recommend never reading them.

    Honorable Mention:
    Doyle Brunson (10 Bracelets)
    Erik Seidel (8 Bracelets)
    Bill Baxter (7 Bracelets)
    Phil Gordon
    Mike Matasow
    Chris Ferguson "Jesus"
    Gus Hansen
    Annie Duke

    Doyle Brunson.
I won alot of cash with a Doyle hand!:awesome
Johnny Chan. He is a beast.
Danny Nyugen(or h/e you spell his last name). He is good and funny to see him get mad. Very exciting player and can talk more persuasively than mike the mouth.
    Danny Negreuanu. Guy is nice.
Ted Forrest. GUy is just really fun to watch.

Negreanu is always a character at the table and he makes things more fun to watch.

Kenny Tran is a pretty good lesser name.

Joe Haschem. He's Australian. That's the only reason I need.

If we're voting for favorite I'm going with Moneymaker or Matasow (I know they're like opposite ends of the spectrum).

If the question is who IMO is the best I'm going with Ivey or Helmuth. Ivey's probably a better all around player, but when Helmuth is on he gains the edge in Hold'em.

    Ivey (yeah, he's fuckin sick!)
The Mouth (you gotta feel bad for the guy, and he's hilarious :p)
    Chan
    Scotty Nguyen(sp?)
    Seidel
    Jennifer Harman
    Gordon
    Cunningham
Jordan Morgan(one of the best players of "my" generation")

    Norman Chad > All

Btw, Helmuth is a joke. They should seriously ban him from the WSOP already :) I can't wait until he talks shit to the wrong guy, and gets knocked the fuck out.

What are yalls favorite games? I'm personally addicted to any Omaha, Stud h/l, and razz. Hold Em is the "easiest" for me, so I rarely play it anymore...

    You fail.

In no particular order, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson, Mike Sexton, Phil Ivey, Nick the Greek, Johnny Moss, Amarillo Slim, T J Cloutier, John Juanda, Toto Leonides, and Stu Unger.

With the exception of Stu Unger, the rest were professional all the times I've seen them. A lot of people like the new wave types like Daniel, Phil, and Mike the mouth.

Scotty Nguyen lost it big time this year and lost a lot of fans:
il ador pe tipul asta, al doilea, e genial

The WSoP needs to reel some of the more well known pro players from berating other players. The rules aren't being applied equally or fairly and a lot of times they go well past the line. Look at some of the old shows and people get timeouts regardless who they are. The WPT is what the WSoP needs to follow, very professional behavior from the players. The WSoP has become a reality show that encourages controversy and confrontation to bump up the ratings.

Wow, old thread is old. I make a thread back in '05 and people start posting in it in '08.

Well, my list hasn't really changed much.

Well, one I hate is the Poker Brat. And Umberto. They're both really annoying.
