Why didn't Katsuki join the league of villains?

I'm not entirely sure if I understand.

Is it simply because Katsuki thinks All Might is cooler than the villains and therefore the only one he wants to be like?

    That's very shallow, if so.

Or perhaps because he can't get the acknowledgment he craves if he becomes a villain?

Simply put, while Bakugou might be a bit of a mean spirited douchebag at times, he grew to worship how All Might always fought and won no matter what, never having to lower himself or compromise. In a way, that's what Bakugou wants to do. Sure, the road to being a hero might be rough, and his reasons for being a hero are... shoddy... but becoming a villain would mean he failed in winning like All Might does.

His admiration for All Might isn't that simple. If it was he wouldn't care that his capture possibly lead to All Might permanently losing his powers. His serious guilt over that (which drove him to fight Deku to resolve his pent up feelings) wouldn't exist and he would simply not care about All Might anymore because he's not strong anymore.

Bakugou cares about the people around him beyond just their level of strength compared to his. Kirishima is a real friend to him (which is why only Kirishima could be the one sticking his hand out for Bakugou's rescue), he takes seriously people who earn his respect (took Ochaco seriously and was impressed by the strategy she showed), and is very aware of the collateral damage his quirk can cause and works to limit the range/power when necessary (used A.P shot against Seiji rather than large scale explosions as to not hurt all the people made into meat potatoes lying in the ground).

    Just look at this guy.
Get a good look at him.

Say, would YOU personally follow this walking facepalm creature? If not, why are you asking that kind of thing from Bakugou, who does not want to be anybody's pawn in general?

Bakugo isn't evil, if your asking what drives him besides All Might and being the best? Its not fully clear, he has no reason to be evil, but theoretically Bakugo could take that drive and do any profession in the world with his same attitude. Him being a hero is something that probably was planted in his mind. "Wow, you got such a great quirk, you will be a great hero", so the hero path probably only seemed natural to him. A lot of people put expectations on him and he pushes himself to meet them.

He has a lot of room to grow and dig into his character, we got a great opportunity in the upcoming battle to dig a little more into it.

'Become a villain because....uhh society sucks' seriously Bakugou is the last person to give a shit bout that :skully

That's not all there is to it. Bakugo admires All Might's resolve and what he represents. He's completely different from someone like Sasuke who only cared for power and his personal ambitions. He wants to be like the All Might, or rather the image he has of him in his mind. Giving in to the villains and joining their side would be betraying that image and himself.

I figured the main appeal would be that he gets to use his quirk without holding back.

If he wanted to become a villain he'd become one on his own while still opposing Shigaraki.

Bakugo can be a massive asshole and has this monumental, abusive complex when it comes to Midoriya, but at his core, he's decent. Despite his abrasive attitude, he showed respect to Uraraka's capabilities when facing her, and while sporting a terrible service attitude, showed good instincts when directing bystanders during the provisional license exam.

At the end of the day, he really wants to be a hero everyone can be inspired by, he's just got to figure out what that truly means.

It comes down to one word - Indoctrination.

Ever since Bakugo was a toddler, he has been systematically indoctrinated into idolizing pro heroes - and one hero in particular.. All day, every single day, children barely even learning to walk like him and Deku were exposed to nothing but stuff glorifying the exploits and physique of All Might.

Asking someone like him who has all that ingrained into his system is like......... Imagine someone today who has grown up watching nothing but a steady cycle of Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Indiana Jones Raiders/Crusade, Inglorurious Basterds, Captain America I, and the Rocketeer. Imagine that someone zealously enrolling into a school centered around killing Nazis, with Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford serving as it's most decorated alumni. Then imagine yourself kidnapping that someone while you're dressed in an SS uniform. And then you politely ask that someone to join the National Socialist German Worker's Party.

    Keep imagining.

How the hell do you think that someone will respond?

    Spoiler:
They'll ask you, ''What the hell is the National Socialist German Worker's Party?'' obviously.

Then tell him you're Nazis and then he'll try to blow up your face.

Because he isn’t that shallow and doesn’t care about using his quirk freely or obtaining power.

This is why people call him a Sasuke clone even though he is the exact opposite. They keep misinterpreting his character. :rlynigga

It's more accurate to compare him to Vegeta.

Angry, ruthless, and proud as fuck... but something good in him.
