I was wondering why this two element are always used to oppose each other in some anime

    Here are my examples

    Naruto`s Rasengan vs Sasuke`s Chidori

Yaiba`s Sword of the Thunder God vs Takeshi`s Sword of the Devil Wind

    Inuyasha`s Tesaiga(wind) vs Seshoumaru`s Tensaiga(lightning) correct me if I mispelled

Heero (Wing Gundam-assosiated with wind) vs Zechs (lightning count)

I`m still thinking of other examples

    any comments

-sigh- I hate when i do this but Tenseiga is the sword of heaven it can be 100 people back to live. Sesshomaru has 2 swords. His other one (just forgot it's name) but it's the one that has the lightning attack.

Rasengan isnt an elemental jutsu, its just pure chakra swirling
Although it is assumed that Narutos new Wind element infused rasengan will go agaisnt the chidori

Well, in the Narutoverse, I think it's stated that wind was the strongest element (I don't see how it could be the strongest, really.). Not so sure about the others because I didn't the the others and it's been some time since I watched Inuyasha. Also, the other sword Sesshoumaru has is called Toukijin, forged from the bones of Goshinki from that evil weapon maker.

actually wind is generally considered to be the strongest element in many mangas/animes. In Narutoverse, i would assume it's considered the strongest because it's everywhere (remember with the exception of some very high level jutsu/ninja, the element must be present to manipulate).

I'm not sure what types of jutsus can be used by wind types, but presumably (i'm basing this off of the training Naruto recieved) Naruto would be able to develop a jutsu that would be able to cut anything in an instant, even on a very large scale. Moreover if he can learn to manipulate it like others have done with fire, water, earth, ect. he should (in theory) be able to create chakra infused tornadoes, Near-impossible to break defenses, ect.

those are just speculations on what i think he may end up being able to do or what he should be able to do based on what we've seen so far in the manga. Am i the only one that sees/thinks this or anyone wanna agree with me :p

the whole reason why this is kinda out there is because wind was stated as being a close to mid-range element, and we've never really seen anyone extremely proficient with the wind element in action (Asuma's proficiency, to me, is somewhat questionable since we never really got to see him go all out and use any jutsu).

In Japan, wind is the ultimate element. Gives perfect defense and has the strongest offensive power.

Don't get me wrong but i love the idea that Naruto is going to get the strongest elemant. But quick question what makes wind so great and what other shows have wind users.

Inuyasha uses the wind scar as his primary attack. Aang uses air/wind as the last airbender in Avatar. Flame of Recca I think has a character using wind element. I'm sure there's more.

Wind usually referecing in storms in seqeunce with lightning seems to be more powerful than lighting because think about it, a hurricane passes along. Whats destroying everything? the rain? or lightning? no its the wind. As for opposites look at it like this Water is opposed to fire. When talking of fire, since lightning is such a destuctive force, it usually coincides with fire. Wind in refering to water can be gentle and destructive at the same time, kinda like in the Avatar (by the way i like this show a lot), Aang is able to learn water as fluently as his air bending. So thus Destructive/Violent VS Calm/destructive. This is probably why lightning can be seen in many animes either againt eachother OR at the same time combined, because in Japan a lot of times you'll see lightning mixed in with wind. If you ever played Onimusha 3. You'll know what i mean.

let's look at this scientific, Wind is like everywhere, and when wind travels, the only thing that's in his way( trough air) is...wind.
Lightnin looks very spectecular, but isn't really, a bit of light and some shocking effects, that's al... plus lightning can only be created with water and... yeah right... wind. therefore i think wind is superior to lightning.
And if you look at it in the way ninja's can use it in a battle, the wind user can manipulate everything in his aria, it can even prevend water and fire attacks, lightning attacks wil be no problem, ( just take away the air.. no lightning, the same with fire) and as offensive... wel,,, i can think of a thousend thing's you can do...

Wind's power in Japan is a cultural thing. After all, they were saved by the combination of wind and sea from the Mongols.

This was called the Kamikaze, which destroyed enemy fleets in 1274 and 1281.

Wind, as a result, is a divine object and extremely powerful to an island nation.

Anime often derives its concepts from history, culture or religion.

As far as the Wind/Lightning topic goes another pair is Raiden/Fujin (the Mortal Kombat God Brothers). I wouldn't say Wind is the perfect element, but it's definitely the coolest. Smashing<Burning<Drowning<Shocking<Slicing into pieces

hmmm, for Wind (Suna) to be the strongest element, it sucked against Fire (Konoha).

I wonder if Suna fought against the Thunder Village before.
