And what part of actual grown up life has this kid taken part in to make him able to actively govern it for people several times his age ? :lmao

If a town of 1000 wants to leave their fate to an 18 year old that's on them. It wouldn't be the dumbest thing to come out of America in the past few years.

Mhm. This is a non issue, small town politics don't mean much. It's like complaining about that town who elects a dog as their mayor.

Except local town policies can still screw people over, and it's worse when it's a small town because then the fallout might be a bit more explosive : P

    Fair.

Still dont see much of an issue though. This is a small bubble that mostly only effects the people that live there. They voted for him so they must have some faith in him.

With the pup though, the recent one the dog was elected for his third term. They must like how the t own is run for it to happen again.

That one's "honorary" though so I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean anything.

    No.

But to assume that he has no adult experiences seems like a stupid analysis to assume qualification over a town.
In the worst case scenario if he screws up big time or performs a horrible duty, then they can still vote him out (or even force him to resign), so I don't see a big issue with this.

I know. It's sad but true.

Depends whether or not he has any influence over contracts because if yes and they sign something that screws the town over financially yet can't be legally dismissed because it's technically above board, well that might get ugly.

Right, but I still don't see how this has anything to do with his age. I doubt the townspeople would elect some high school drop off who makes bad life choices (if anything, it's even said that he's a valedictorian from his high school and a student at a community college).

    that's how democracy works, yes

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with people exercising their right to vote for whoever they want

Because most people at 18 don't have the experience in politics necessary to see when someone is trying to fuck them over.

Except I don't see anything wrong with an 18 year old running a small town.
Now if this was on a larger scale (like Federal, State, or even County level politics), then I would understand.

Besides, this seems like a good way to start off into the political field.

If you read the article it says he already serves on city council and as a volunteer firefighter.

As to the firefighter thing, that's well and good but it doesn't give you much insight into running things ? And as to the former, how long could he even legally have been on the city council until now ? If it's only a couple of months than that still is not exactly what I'd say is adequate experience.

What are you trying to argue here? You said "adult stuff" I assume you meant a job with a mission and responsibilities. The town is run with a council-manager government style so he doesn't have absolute power, he has experience in this type of government already since he sat on the council. More so than other small town mayors who may have just been farmers or such.
